Shira joined CrossFit 6S almost 2 years ago (without any prior CrossFit experience) and ever since then she has exemplified the characteristics of a great role model. Shira comes to every class with a positive attitude and will always be the first person to introduce herself to new members and make them feel welcome. She continually challenges herself and constantly strives for more - always setting new personal and professional goals. She integrates herself into the community and makes sure she can always attend our social/community events. She’ll help pick you up off the floor if you need a hand + then tell you to keep up the good work. She’ll ask questions because she cares and wants to learn more & we love it! We couldn’t ask for anything more in a member/friend. Thank you for being you, Shira! We truly are blessed to have you around!
Here are a few things your probably didn’t know about Shira (feel free to ask her more about them/her the next time you see her crushing the weights at the gym):
Greg Glassman, founder of CrossFit, defines the sport as follows: “CrossFit is constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. CrossFit workouts are based on functional movements, and include aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, running, rowing and more.” With this sort of definition and execution it's no surprise that the CrossFit Open includes most (if not all) of these elements. Most of us can look at a workout and immediately know which movements we are looking forward to and which ones we would could do without. While some people dread snatches, others love it, some love bodyweight movements, others don’t. This trend is everywhere and it is COMPLETELY NORMAL. Everyone is different, so of course everyone has their own opinion when it comes to their favourite movements.
With all the buzz around the gym about the CrossFit Open, we wanted to get everybody on the same page and explain what it is all about, why everyone should sign up + how we are going to prepare you for what's coming!!
Although the CrossFit Open has traditionally been referred to as the first step towards qualifying for the CrossFit games, it has grown and developed into so much more. The Open is not only a stepping stone for those looking to compete on the worldwide stage, it has morphed into a worldwide event aimed at making everyone fitter, strengthening communities and having fun!
With the end of the holiday season and the beginning of the New Year, many of you may be looking to revamp your diet and focus on a healthier lifestyle for 2018. If this is you, congratulations on taking a step towards a better life! Maybe you’ve decided to try a new trendy diet like Whole30, paleo, or keto. Or maybe you’re just looking to build some better habits for 2018. It doesn’t really matter what kind of “diet” or plan you want to do, most of them will give results (Stay away from magic teas and detoxes though). The tricky part when it comes to any diet is sticking to it. None of them will work if you don’t stick to the plan. The best plan is the one you will stick to, and in many cases, this will be different for everyone. The most successful people are generally the ones who work on building a healthier lifestyle with healthy habits, rather than sticking to short term plans or fixes. This post is aimed at helping you build that lifestyle.
