For the month of May, 78 athletes came together (virtually) on 4 teams to complete 4 weeks of challenges. Even though we were on isolation and lockdown, this didn't stop our community from coming together to work as (virtual) teams to complete these challenges and workouts.
On Saturday February 28th, we made memories. We made new friends, we tried new movements, and we had FUN. It had been since 2018 since our last in-house members competition because of 2019's 'double Open', but CrossFit 6S brought the house down for the 2020 Underground Throwdown. 44 of our athletes came together on 11 teams. Some people meeting for the very first time on that Saturday, but everyone came together and worked as a team. By the end of the day and after 4 (and for some 5) workouts, we crowned 3 teams on the podium, handed out those giant cheques you see on the game shows, and celebrated every ones hard work with post workout carbs (beer)!
On Saturday, September 14th, we hosted our first squats and tacos challenge! The premise was simple: weigh yourself, load up a percentage of your bodyweight on the bar (50% for an intermediate challenge, 100% for RX), and squat it for as many times as you can for 5 minutes. The idea behind this challenge was quite intuitive, because no matter which discipline in which you found yourself here at CrossFit6S, whether that’s CrossFit, Powerlifting, or Olympic Weightlifting, the barbell back squat is a foundational movement for which all athletes have a degree of proficiency.
WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!
On July 6th, we had 13 teams of 4 compete in a team CrossFit competition in Collingwood, ON and we could not be more proud! We had such a diverse group of athletes - from seasoned CrossFitters to new athletes, and even some Olympic Weightlifters participated too! Some of our coaches even got in on the action. Nonetheless, regardless of people's experience or skill, everyone came together and fought hard in each of the 4 workouts.
In case you missed it this year or you want to relive the memories, we have put together a brief recap.
PS. Thank you to Sanja for being our photographer for the day! These are just a select few of the photos that she took - the rest will be made available to everyone ASAP.
The annual CrossFit Open & our own Basement Battle League (BBL) is the largest event of the year, and every year it keeps getting better! With over 100 CrossFit 6S athletes signed up for it this year, we knew it was going to be memorable - and it definitely was! With 5 Friday Night Lights booked off in Feb/March, our athletes were ready for the challenge. Athletes from all the classes, with different experiences and skill levels, came together to support, challenge, encourage and sweat with one another. We even had a handful of Powerlifters and Olympic Weightlifters - who don't regularly train CrossFit - join us!
We are so proud of everyone who participated this year - everyone showed up ready to work hard, and no matter what the challenge was, everyone tackled it with determination, grit, resilience and confidence. We can't wait to see what the next Open (in October) has in store!
We've put together some highlights from this year - we hope you enjoy!
On the last weekend of the coldest month of the year, Six Lifts Weightlifting fielded the largest ever team to compete at the largest meet hosted by the Ontario Weightlifting Association, the Ontario Masters Open at St. Thomas. Lou, Tom, Marino, Gobhi, Jon, and Whitney competed amongst over 130 athletes over the course of two days and every single one of them put up a stellar performance. This was also the single biggest team I have ever coached at a single competition and I certainly could not have done it without the support of the team at Six Lifts Weightlifting.
On Saturday Nov 24th, we hosted our annual members team CrossFit competition - 6S Underground Throwdown. This year, we had a mix of first-time and experienced competitors, in addition to members who had just started CrossFit and those who have been with us for a few years. We’re so proud of everyone for stepping outside of their comfort zone, for demonstrating teamwork and camaraderie (most people hadn't met their teammates before), and for giving each workout their best effort!
While last year was hard to top, we’re confident that this one is going to stick with people for a while - we definitely will never forget it! In case you missed the event, or were there but want to relive the memories, we’ve put together a short recap of the day. We hope you enjoy!
For the purpose of this blog post, we will only include a select group of pictures. All of the pictures will be made available to participants in the upcoming weeks!
On Saturday Oct. 20th, OHFast Performance Therapists - Paul, Ricky and Melissa - hosted an Overhead Fix Workshop. They dropped so many knowledge bombs and tips, that we have to share in case you missed it!
On Friday June 22nd, as a follow-up to our Olympic Weightlifting Seminar, we hosted our first ever members Olympic Weightlifting Competition. In this 3.5-hour competition, members were given the opportunity to showcase all of their hard work in front of their peers, and they did not disappoint!
